This summer may present travel challenges.

Summertime usually rouses our desire to hit the road (or the airport) and travel, but here are a few things you’ll want to consider before you take off this year.

Issues with Airlines

Airlines have canceled hundreds of flights due to staffing issues, part of an industry-wide work shortage. If you intend to fly this summer, plan for delays, cancellations, and other complications. The airline industry has also seen increases in unruly, disruptive or violent passenger behavior which can affect flights.

High Gas Prices

The national average for gasoline prices hit $3.09 per gallon in June. As the summer vacation months continue to increase consumer demand, even higher prices may be expected.

Rental Cars

Rental car prices are extremely high due to increased consumer demand, with some rentals as high as $300 per day.

Hotel Rooms versus Airbnbs

During the pandemic, the cost of renting Airbnbs went up in comparison to the cost of hotel rooms. But in 2021, with increased consumer demand for travel, that’s not necessarily true any more. Be sure to compare rates.

The Delta Variant

While vaccination events are plentiful, the COVID-19 vaccines are not yet available to children under 12. While the Centers for Disease Control has relaxed mask-wearing guidelines, many Americans still take precautions due to the delta variant, gaining prominence among the COVID-19 cases in the United States. Families with children will likely want to weigh these risks if they plan to travel.
