Mark Giesting, ChFC®

Mark Giesting has nearly two decades of experience helping individuals and families develop personalized financial strategies that are meaningful and fulfilling. He holds Series 6, 63, 65 and 26 securities registrations as well as his life insurance license, and he is certified as a Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) from The American College of Financial Services.

Mark has always been interested in business and he has spent his entire career in financial services. One of the most important life lessons he ever learned was from his father. His father grew up as one of 10 children and couldn’t afford college. He worked in a factory to support his own six children. His advice was, “Don’t follow in my footsteps, Mark. Get an education. Learn about money and finance.” Mark took his dad’s words to heart. He has a bachelor’s degree in business from Ball State University as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Thomas More College.

Mark says, “Money and finance can be complex and confusing. No one was there for my dad, so I am passionate about being there for other people. I want to give people really good advice—that’s what makes me tick; that’s what makes me get up in the morning. When it comes to financial decisions, I’ve seen bad things happen to good people. I want to help people avoid that. Education is key.”

Mark’s career began in 1988 with Forethought Financial Services, an insurance company based in Batesville, where he worked in various sales management and executive leadership positions. Even though it was great experience, he says, “I was always out of my element in corporate America. The entrepreneurial spirit was calling me; many of my friends had their own businesses. Plus, I was always gone and traveling a lot when my kids were small. I needed life balance, which is something I think is important for everyone.”

In 2002, Mark followed his entrepreneurial instincts with the strong support of his wife, Denise. Together they started Giesting Financial, where Mark could focus his time and energy on working directly with clients who could benefit from his counsel and guidance, while Denise worked behind the scenes. “Without her, I couldn’t have done it. Denise graduated from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and works as director of operations. This has very much been a team venture and journey.”

Since starting the business in 2002, they have won the Batesville Herald Tribune’s People’s Choice Award for Ripley and Franklin counties – as voted on by readers – numerous times over the past decade. During the last few years, they have added team members and expanded the business into Columbus, Indiana.

Mark says, “One of the ways we do things differently at Giesting Financial is to peel a plan back way beyond just the numbers. It all starts with what clients want to accomplish, what their deepest dreams and life goals are. Once we know that, then we can line up the resources to help reach those. It’s about return on life, not just return on investment. Return on investment is good, but only if it helps you achieve your life aspirations. We want to help people get the most out of life.”

Mark grew up in scenic Oldenburg Village, one of the oldest towns in Indiana, originally settled more than 200 years ago. Known for its religious structures, the concentration of steeples, spires and towers earned it the nickname “The Village of Spires.” Both sets of grandparents were from the surrounding rural area.

In his free time, Mark enjoys being with his four grown children and wife, Denise. He is devoted to community. Over the years, he has served on hospital, school, and church boards. Currently, he serves on the board of directors for the nonprofit community coffee house known as Amack’s Well.
